1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms and Conditions are an agreement between you and Tapread (“we”, “us” or “our”) for the Tapread app for iPhone and iPad and the website tapread.app (the “Service”). By downloading or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The app licence is also governed by Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement. How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Service Description
Tapread is a reader for book files you already own. It includes:
- opening EPUB, PDF, Word (DOCX), FB2, Kindle (MOBI and AZW3) and TXT files without copy protection;
- tap-to-translate: the meaning of a word in its sentence, in 24 languages;
- phrase translation shown in pencil above the text;
- saved words, shown in pencil above the same word in your other books;
- narration of books with synthetic voices in 5 languages;
- light and dark themes, highlights, notes and bookmarks;
- sync of saved words, highlights, notes and bookmarks through your iCloud.
Free: unlimited reading, 20 word translations a day (words you have looked up before do not count), phrases of up to eight words, saved words, and one free minute of narration in every book.
Tapread Premium: translations without a daily limit, whole-sentence and longer-passage translation, and 15 hours of narration a month.
Tapread does not sell, search for or download books, and it does not remove copy protection.
3. User Accounts
You do not need an account to use Tapread. Sign in with Apple is optional. You can sign out at any time and delete your account in the app under Profile, then Delete account.
4. Usage Restrictions
You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything illegal or to infringe anyone’s rights, including copyright;
- use bots, scripts or other automated means to access the Service or to extract translations or audio in bulk;
- get around usage limits, the subscription or copy protection;
- upload malicious code, interfere with, attack or gain unauthorised access to the Service;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it.
5. User Content
You keep all rights to your files, notes and saved words. Your book files stay on your device, and you are responsible for having the right to read them. When you ask for a translation or narration, the text needed for it is sent to our servers. You allow us to store and process that text only to provide the Service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Subscriptions and Payments
Tapread Premium is a subscription sold through the App Store, billed monthly or yearly.
- Payment. The price is shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Renewal. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancellation. Cancel in your device’s Settings: your name, then Subscriptions, then Tapread. You keep Premium until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Price changes. Apple notifies you before a new price applies, and you can cancel before then.
- Narration hours. You get 15 hours every month, on the monthly and the yearly plan alike. They count the audio we create, not listening time. Narrated chapters replay for free. The hours are shared by all devices on the same subscription. Unused hours do not roll over and have no cash value. Books are narrated one at a time.
- Refunds. Payments and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies. See our Refund and Returns Policy.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including the app, its design, text, voices and code, belongs to Tapread and its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. Open-source components and fonts included in the app are provided under their own licences.
8. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. Translations are generated by an AI language model and narration uses synthetic AI voices, so they may contain mistakes. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available or error-free, that translations and narration will be accurate, or any learning results. Do not rely on the Service for legal, medical, financial or safety-critical purposes.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Tapread is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
10. Changes and Termination
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service. If we remove a feature included in Tapread Premium, we will tell you in the app in advance. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms. You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account in the app.
11. Apple
These terms are between you and Tapread, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price; Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance and intellectual property claims. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
13. Changes to the Terms
We will post updates on this page with a new date. For significant changes, we will also tell you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept it.

15. Severability
If any part of these terms is found invalid, it will be changed as little as necessary, and the rest remains in effect.
16. Entire Agreement
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Refund and Returns Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Tapread about the Service.
